Get Fighting Fit with Jennifer Metcalfe

The New Year is a time when many Resolve to take up exercise, with hitting the gym or losing a few pounds exercising at home being one of the most common New Year’s Resolutions. The New Year’s Resolutions Show spoke to Former Hollyoaks star and LighterLife Fast ambassador Jennifer Metcalfe about her top tips for getting, and staying, in shape.  

Jennifer explained that she is a big fan of exercise, and even has a degree in health and fitness which she gained before her acting career took off. According to Jennifer, “I love exercise so I always make time for it; even when my filming schedule is hectic, there’s always a way to fit it in. I’m lucky enough to have a smart TV, so I squeeze in quick workouts whenever I have a spare few minutes! It’s all about making the most of the time you have. Yoga, hitting the gym and going for a walk are my favourite exercises. I fit walking into my routine by swapping taking a car journey for walking to work twice a week. It’s only a mile and a half each way but adds more physical activity into my week without taking up any unnecessary time or effort!”

Jennifer left us with her top tips for easy exercise:

1. Make exercise work around your schedule - if you have somewhere to go that’s relatively close

by, walk instead of taking a car journey or public transport

2. Try HIIT - HIIT get fast results and only takes 20 minutes!

3. Try not to be tied to your ‘typical’ fitness routine when your days are extra busy. By being flexible, you’ll achieve more. For example, if a meeting happens to clash with your usual exercise class, set your alarm half an hour earlier and go for a quick jog before walk, or take a brisk walk during your lunch break

4. Don’t punish yourself – in the past I would beat myself up about not going to the gym, but as I’ve got older I’ve realised that if I miss a workout, it’s fine, I can make up for it next week!
